Beneath the Eiffel Tower.
Well, this is the final post of Summer 2009! Have been quiet in here, mostly updating Facebook which seems to be rendering the blog activity redundant, though I have updated the images in the EUROPE/ASIA 09 category for En Route, Belgium (Fall), France, and Northern Ireland, which comes to several hundred photographs shot with my friend Rob Pappas’ Nikon D200, which he sent me to use for this trip. He’s a member here as well.
Some thoughts on the D200. Great camera, real solid feel, everything looks terrific. Disappointed in that it still let a ton of work for me to do in post production. Tried to have fun with that as this image of the Eiffel Tower suggests, but still extremely time-consuming. the camera also weighed about 4x the P80 I was using, which is now supplanted by the 24x P90! Also was no pleasure lugging around multiple lenses. The fact is, this kind of camera means you are dedicated to going out to shoot pix for the day, period. This is no tourist treasure but a dominant companion on your arm.
Would I like to own this camera? Of course! But more importantly, do I need to own this camera or one similar, and the answer is No. I got to know the D200 very well, used a 4GB memory card with it which meant only a couple of times having to delete already uploaded pix from the card to shoot anew. Stayed largely in Program mode and Manual mode, but didn’t move from there much. Actually was surprised at how much I missed the video feature from the P80 as there were times I wanted to shoot some video, but it was easy to live without that feature and the D200 does do 4 frames per second if you want to be creative that way and try some strange video manipulations with that in mind.
Overall, pretty choice trip! Six countries, France for the first time, same with Ireland and Northern Ireland. Switzerland two years in a row, and Germany, Belgium starting to be habits
>. Woohoo!!! And mucho graciases to Susie Abraczinskas for making the trip less stressful, as she always seems to do for me.
Clipping my wings a bit. The flight from Paris to Charlotte was my 32nd flight in 2.5 years. So……
Upgrading the blog software as soon as I can which could mean trouble. Always appreciate feedback if you cannot post or whatever. Fighting with the spammers and worms that want to register and act up here, hoping the upgrade will control a little more of that. Until, later, peace out.
USERS PLEASE NOTE: As I upgrade it is imperative that defunct accounts be deleted, as these accounts are actually invalid and how worms get in. So if I don’t know or recognize anything about your login and email, and you have never posted here, you are going to be deleted.
